Is Buteyko breathing different from Yoga breathing?
The hatha yoga masters have known for centuries that a supreme level of mental and physical fitness can be attained through the breath. But they were living in a very different world from our's, far from the pressures of modern society.
Due to lifestyle factors, our breathing has become heavier and more erratic in recent decades, making some of the pranayamas difficult for us to do, except in a simplified form.
The purpose of the Buteyko Method is to reset the respiratory centre in the brain, so that we breathe well naturally. Then, not only will our yoga practice be easier and more fruitful, but our health will improve on all levels.
